Take a well fitting button down shirt, (not a T-shirt) lay it flat.  With a measuring tape, go from the back of the shirt, as we did this one, measure under the arm pit area, (1 side only) SEAM TO SEAM ONLY.NOT ALL THE WAY AROUND. Compare to this shirt measurements below:
